Shungite Sphere on Wooden Stand — Polished
A shungite sphere carved from a single piece of Karelian shungite and polished to a near-perfect ball, about 220 g, on a matching wooden stand so it stays where you put it.
What you get
- One polished shungite sphere, about 220 g
- Wooden stand, included
- Type III shungite from the Zazhoginsky deposit, Karelia
A sphere is the hardest shape
A pyramid has flat faces to work to; a sphere has none, so every part of the surface is cut and polished by eye against the curve. That is why a sphere costs more per gram than a pyramid of the same weight, and why a slight flat or a faint facet under raking light is a sign of hand work rather than a fault.
What it looks like
Deep black with a low sheen and pale marks where quartz veins and pyrite flecks reach the surface, different on every sphere. A sphere with a perfectly uniform, seamless surface is more likely moulded resin. Fingerprints come off with a dry cloth. Lighter than it looks: shungite is about half the density of quartz.
Real shungite conducts electricity: tap a phone screen with it and the screen responds as if to a fingertip. Resin and painted stone do nothing. The full test guide is here.
